ESOS – the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme – is mandatory for large businesses and third sector organisations with over 250 employees and/or a turnover of more than 50 million Euros and/or a balance sheet of over 43 million Euros.  See official government guidance: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/energy-savings-opportunity-scheme-esos.

Clare Carden is a certified ESOS Lead Assessor with the UK Association of Energy Engineers: http://www.ukaee.org.uk/esos-register/.  She carried out assessments for a number of third sector and business clients in the 2015 round of ESOS, ensuring that each assessment gave practical, impartial advice on how to reduce energy expenditure cost-effectively.

If your organisation needs to comply, please get in touch soon to discuss your requirements for ESOS 2.  Clare is keen to advise now on the verifiable energy data you will need to provide and much of the work can be done now, well ahead of the 5th December 2019 deadline, and can be doing the energy audits required.

The savings….. paid her fees several times over

Like many charities, we didn't much want to have to spend our resources on an ESOS assessment but Clare Carden not only made us compliant but provided us with a raft of practical solutions to reduce our energy consumption in her clear, detailed report. She quickly understood the complexity of our social care sites and forensically analysed our consumption data, identifying amongst other things that significant savings could be made with no investment at all. These alone paid her fees several times over. We are now in discussion with Clare again to ensure we collect all the data we need well ahead of ESOS 2 and get booked in for our next assessment.

From my initial phone call with Clare Carden to reading her final report I could see she was committed to making the mandatory ESOS process work for us.  She guided us in getting clear answers from SEPA to ensure compliance ahead of the energy assessments and quickly identified where to concentrate most effort to reduce our energy costs. Clare made a point of understanding how our different operations work and tailored her recommendations accordingly. She thinks out of the box and found we could save over 50% of the electricity we use in our site portacabins and the changes would pay back in less than 6 months! I have no hesitation in recommending Clare.
